Art Therapy

Art Therapy in North Vancouver

Art therapy offers a gentle, non-verbal way to explore emotions, experiences, and patterns that can be difficult to put into words. Through creative expression, adults, youth, and children can gain insight, self-regulation, and healing, especially when navigating trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, or life transitions.

In our peaceful solarium studio surrounded by forest and flowing water, clients are supported in slowing down, reconnecting with their bodies, and expressing themselves in ways that feel safe and meaningful.

What to Expect in an Art Therapy Session

In an art therapy session, you’ll be guided to use creative materials, like drawing, painting, or sculpting, to explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences. No artistic experience is required, just an interest in creatively exploring your mental health. Art making focuses on self-expression, reflection, and insight rather than artistic skill. Sessions may involve guided prompts, open-ended exploration, or discussion of artwork, helping you connect with your inner world in a safe and supportive environment.

Who Can Benefit

Art therapy can support children, youth, and adults experiencing:

  • Stress, anxiety, or depression
  • Trauma or emotional overwhelm
  • Family or school conflict
  • Difficulty expressing feelings verbally
  • Life transitions, grief, or identity challenges
  • Relationship or communication difficulties
  • A desire for personal growth, insight, or coping skills

It’s a flexible, experiential approach that can complement traditional talk therapy, helping clients develop coping skills, emotional awareness, and resilience.

A Gentle, Trauma-Sensitive Approach

Our art therapy sessions are trauma-informed and tailored to each client’s unique needs. We focus on building trust and compassion, recognizing strengths, providing stabilization and empowerment, emphasizing client choice, and honouring each person’s unique experience.

For those seeking to process adversity in a gentle and meaningful way, art therapy provides stabilization and skills for feeling empowered and emotionally balanced. Art making supports deep processing in a way that avoids retraumatization, helping clients safely explore painful experiences and shift unhelpful patterns, leading to stability and lasting change.
